One year ago, when Prince Albert of Monaco married Charlene Wittstock, now Princess Charlene, there was a lot of talk about how the marriage was arranged to provide him with an heir. The couple laughs off these rumors in a new televised interview.

The royal couple sat down with CBS to talk about married life, hurtful rumors and allegations, and how comparisons to Prince Albert's mother, Hollywood icon Grace Kelly, would have still surfaced no matter who his Princess was.

Video of the interview is below, embedded at the end of this article.

“Well, I think it's, wonderful,” Prince Albert says about married life. “I can't speak for Charlene, but she will be able to answer you. But we're having a wonderful time.”

“Great,” Princess Charlene says in her turn. “I recommend it,” she adds.

The next question prompts Prince Albert to ask for a time out from the interview because Princess Charlene is confused by it: what is it like to be a princess?

When the interview resumes, Prince Albert is speaking about his mother and how Princess Charlene is always being compared to her.

Any other woman would have been just as well, he says.

“Now I think you know every human being is unique. And that's the beauty of the human race. I knew that whoever I choose to marry, that she would be compared to my mother. And I was ready for that. But I think Charlene has her own very wonderful personal qualities to be able to shine,” he explains.

As for all those rumors before and after they were wed, about how Charlene attempted to escape at least 3 times before the ceremony because she'd changed her mind and was apprehended at the airport by Prince Albert's goons, that's a lie.

“I mean, to be honest with you, I really do not read anything that's printed. I think rumors, the word is, says a lot about itself, I suppose,” Princess Charlene says.

“Those rumors were completely unfounded, completely untrue,” Prince Albert cuts in. “And it was very unfair to, the – and we know the source. But, and we've been able to deal with that. But it was a very unfair treatment.”

We should note that voices in the blogosphere point out that this interview is as awkward as it's unintentionally funny: it's clear the two are not in love and that she's completely over it, they say.

Watch it and judge for yourself.
