3D Realms have confirmed what some dare not even dream of: Prey is being ported to the iPhone. The accelerometer-focused port is being developed by MachineWorks Northwest and is slated for a very soon release, according to the makers of Duke Nukem 3D and the Doom series.

“If you're an iPhone user, there's something coming up that you're going to be interested in. It's a port of Prey to the iPhone. As we're sure you remember, Prey was a big hit when it was released back in 2006, and shortly, you'll be able to play it on your iPhone,” 3D Realms confirms on the company's official web site. “We do not have a release date for it yet, but it's supposed to be shortly ... Stay tuned,” the developer adds.

The developer also points out to an IGN review of the game, where the reviewers praise MachineWorks for doing “a remarkable job with Prey thus far,” explaining that “the texture work is excellent, especially inside the alien ship where you can see an incredible level of detail in the metal panels.”

Prey follows the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation with few to no life plans. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Along with his people, he is upducted to a menacing mother-ship orbiting the Earth. He sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and ultimately his planet.

The Macintosh Demo of Prey was originally released on January 12, 2007. The game was published for the Mac by none other than Aspyr Media. Mac port features include:

· Built on an enhanced Doom 3 engine, the most impressive 3D engine used in a released game. · Portal technology adds a new dimension to gameplay, allowing enemies to appear out of thin air and create new and completely original puzzles and gameplay styles. · Several never-before-seen gameplay elements such as Spirit Walking, Wall Walking, and Deathwalk. · Highly organic, living environment that itself can attack Tommy. · Tommy has a sidekick, a spiritual hawk that can help him fight enemies and decipher the alien language of the living ship. · Multiplayer game support that takes advantage of the unique gameplay styles in Prey.
