Adam Lambert fans wondering about when he’ll be releasing a new video should breathe easy: a preview of the official “Whataya Want from Me” clip, the second single off his debut album “For Your Entertainment,” has just been released, as MTV can confirm. The official video drops this Friday on MTV and VH1 but, in the meanwhile, fans will just have to make do with the 20 seconds available from it.

Unlike the video for the title single, which was a perfect reflection of the lyrics and which was released back in November, the vid for “Whataya Want from Me” seems to touch more on the softer, more emotional side of the singer. The preview sees him in a very stylish apartment, eyeliner and black leather clothes in place, addressing the camera with the question that also makes for the topic of the song.

“With all the leather and glitter and controversial awards-show performances, it’s sometimes easy to overlook the human side of American Idol star Adam Lambert. He gets sad. He feels lonely. He is insecure. And all of those things are on display in the video for his new single, ‘Whataya Want From Me’ (from his ‘For Your Entertainment’ LP), which premieres on MTV and VH1 Friday,” MTV says of the sneak peek made available online.

“There are no outlandish costumes, no creative eyeliner applications – just a guy feeling very much like an island unto himself, which is something Lambert probably feels from time to time. It’s no secret that it’s pretty lonely at the top. Which is why he looks so utterly honest when he sings the chorus of the song: He’s literally asking the listener what they want from him. He’s begging to know how much more he is expected to give. Lambert is a man who takes pride in being true to himself, yet, as the song – and video – seem to imply, being the center of that kind of attention is a double-edged sword, and comes with a big downside,” the music publication goes on to say of the upcoming video.

It’s no secret that Lambert truly feels the lyrics of this particular song, as he explained on more than a couple of occasions. While he knows he must stay true to himself, he’s also aware that certain expectations are pinned on him and the last thing he’d want to do would be to disappoint his fans, he says. After all, it’s the fans who’ve made of him what he is now. From this the question, formulated more like an honest entreaty in “Whataya Want from Me.”
