President Barack Obama landed himself in very hot waters after remarking that California Attorney General Kamala Harris that she was “by far the best-looking attorney general in the country.” In a statement to the press, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says Obama has apologized.

The comment on Harris’ good looks came shortly after another one on her abilities and accomplishments and, many said, belittled them, if not actually annulled them altogether.

Women should not be judged by their appearance, and this is what Obama seemed to be doing with his comment.

The President agrees, which is why he’s already admitted to Harris that he was wrong in saying those things, Carney explains, as the video below will confirm.

“[He] did not want in any way to diminish the attorney general's professional accomplishments and her capabilities,” Carney says.

“He fully recognizes the challenges women continue to face in the workplace and that they should not be judged based on appearance,” the Press Secretary adds.
