On June 25, US President Barack Obama delivered a speech on climate change, global warming, and human society's need to fight back these phenomena.

The President's speech, which was delivered at Georgetown University, has long been waited by environmentalists and ordinary folks who are very much concerned about the dangers associated with ongoing changes in global weather patterns.

Although this was not the first time when Barack Obama addressed these issues, the speech he gave on June 25 was the first in which the President talked solely about climate change and global warming.

President Obama said that, in the months to come, the United States will try and combat said phenomena by rolling out several energy projects on federal lands.

Barack Obama also wants the country to up its energy efficiency, and put a leash on the amounts of pollution that power plants spread across the entire US territory produce.

Since these power plants generate up to 40% of the carbon emissions the US releases into the atmosphere on a yearly basis, improving on their ecological footprint is bound to yield significant benefits.

“I'm directing [Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)] to put an end to the limitless dumping of carbon pollution from our power plants,” the President said in his speech, as cited by Mongabay.

More precisely, President Obama has promised that, by the year 2020, the country's emissions will have been reduced by 17% from 2005 levels.

Barack Obama also wishes that the US become a global leader in terms of climate action, and that the country's green-oriented policies will serve as an example to other nations.

The Keystone Pipeline project was also given due consideration by the US President, who promised that he would not support it as long as scientific evidence indicated that this project would up carbon pollution and harm the environment.

Summing up his views on climate change and global warming, Barack Obama stated as follows: “As a president, as a father, and as an American, I'm here to say we need to act.”
