The official website of the presidency of Costa Rica (casapres.go.cr) was breached by a group of hackers known as Latinhack, who managed to temporarily deface it, The Hacker News informs.

According to Tico Times, the same collective is responsible for launching more than 13,000 attacks on government sites from Spain, Venezuela, Chile, Dominican Republic and even the United Kingdom.

Costa Rican government officials revealed that the breach was uncovered while a backup process was being performed on Monday night.

They further state that sensitive information was never in danger because everything is stored in a separate location than the public website.

Also, they claim that IP addresses of the computers used in the hack were identified and the appropriate measures will be taken against the attackers.
