Introducing SideWinder: the new Windows Vista hardcore gaming mouse. Microsoft estimates the number of gamers worldwide using the Windows operating system as their main gaming platform at in excess of 200 million. Following the fist six months of general availability of Windows Vista, the Redmond company revealed that the operating system's new DirectX 10 graphics technology convinced over 10 million gamers to switch from XP. This is why the company has been cooking a special offer in computer peripherals addressing the new breed of Vista gamers. "Get your game on with the ultimate gaming mouse," reads Microsoft's invitation adjacent to the presentation of SideWinder.

And this is indeed a mouse not for the faint of heart. "Elevate your skills with a revolutionary mouse designed to provide you with unprecedented performance, handling, and adaptability. Customize your mouse with every game you play using advanced software and adjustable accessories. Use the first ever LCD display on a gaming mouse for macro recording and DPI settings to reduce on-screen interference during game play," states the description of SideWinder.

The actual technical specifications will make the mouths of gamers everywhere water. SideWinder brings to the table a "resolution of 2000 dpi, image processing: 7080 frames per second, max acceleration: 20 g, max speed: 45 inches per second, usb reporting: 500 hz" and it offers customizable gliding with no less than 3 sets of different mouse feet and a life expectancy of 9 million clicks for the main buttons. Currently, SideWinder is planned for availability in October and will come with a price tag of approximately $80.

SideWinder is the first mouse to feature its own LCD display designed to display DPI settings and macro recording icons, also permitting users to easily change DPI Settings via built in buttons. The mouse can also be personalized with a set of weights, adding a total of 30 grams. SideWinder is of course Certified for Windows Vista and offers a quick launch button designed to easily open Games Explorer.
