Sony Mobile introduced the Xperia tipo and tipo dual last month and confirmed that both smartphones would be released in Q3 2012. Although we don’t have an exact launch date for either of the devices, it looks like the Xperia tipo is expected to arrive in the UK in September.

According to major retailer Carphone Warehouse, Sony Xperia tipo will hit shelves in about two months, probably for under 150 GBP (230 USD or 190 EUR) outright.

Keep in mind that this is not the only UK-based retailer that will offer the Xperia tipo. We have already reported that the smartphone is currently available for pre-order via Unlocked-Mobiles for £135 GBP ($210 or €170) off-contract.

However, Carphone Warehouse only offers customers the option to pre-register for the Sony Xperia tipo, so the authorized reseller does not accept pre-orders for the moment.

The smartphone will be available in two color options, blue and red for a price that will be disclosed closer to launch. Those who wish to receive the latest updates on the availability of the Xperia tipo can register their contacts here.

Sony Xperia tipo is a budget-friendly smartphone powered by Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The phone sports a decent 3.2-inch scratch-resistant capacitive touchscreen display that supports 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 262k colors.

On the inside, the phone packs an 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225AA single-core processor, which is complemented by an obsolete Adreno 200 GPU and 512MB of RAM. There’s also 2.9GB of internal memory that can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

The Xperia tipo embeds a mediocre 3-megapixel rear camera with video recording, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HSDPA support.

The phone’s 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 470 hours of standby time (545 hours in 3G mode) or up to 5 hours of talk time (4.5 hours in 3G mode).
