Sony is implementing new features into its PlayStation Store as the service will now allow PSN users to pre-purchase and pre-load digital games for the PlayStation 3 platform.

Digital distribution is becoming a necessity on many platforms and, after the huge success of Valve’s Steam on the PC, Sony is trying to improve its efforts on its PlayStation 3 platform.

As such, after slowly but surely offering digital downloads of retail PS3 games, Sony has now confirmed that PSN users will be able to pre-purchase and pre-load games via the PS Store.

The first title to support such a thing is Sorcery, the upcoming PS Move-enabled adventure game, as potential customers can already buy the title and download it right now via the online store.

When the game is actually launched – May 22, in North America, May 25, in Europe – PSN users will just have to decrypt the files and they’ll be able to play the game immediately.
