A dark-humored prankster believed it would be amusing to hack a man's Facebook account while he was undergoing surgery and post a fake update about the failure of the operation and the man's passing.

The post said that there were several complications during surgery, and the patient passed away, even if he was well and recovering after a routine operation.

Rod Smith, a 45-year-old man from West Peckham, Kent went into Maidstone Hospital for a routine groin surgery and was shocked, after the intervention, to find out that some bizarre prankster logged into his Facebook account and announced everyone that he was dead.

The patient was still recovering when he noticed his father looking as if he was crying at the moment he came to visit him. He asked his father what the problem was and couldn't believe the answer, “when my dad came to pick me up he looked like he had been balling his eyes out. It is so sick that someone could do that. I was shocked. I couldn't believe it,” the man says, according to Daily News.

The post from Rod's Facebook page read “Unfortunately Rod died this afternoon due to complications during an operation at Maidstone Hospital.” His family was shocked at the sight of the post and all condolence calls and texts that followed.

After finding out about the fact that the post was just a twisted attempt of a joke, Rod's family was furious and accused the prankster of being a sick human being. Luckily for them, the patient's kids never saw the Facebook post and were kept away from the devastating prank.

After the incident, Mr. Smith and his family notified the police about the matter in order to track down the dark-humored prankster. Officers advised Rod to contact Facebook administrators in order to find out who the culprit is and track him down.
