Copy-paste strategy for Samsung

Samsung has declared that they are currently working on a project with Italian clothing designer Armani for bringing a limited edition branded handset.

Samsung must have liked LG's Prada phone tremendously, as they haven't stopped at copying it with the SGH-P520 model. Now they are looking to develop a device branded with the name of a renowned clothing designer. Samsung Prada would have made their copying initiative and it was already taken, so they had to stick with Armani.

The mobile phone producer company wants to develop a new handset category where it will place all its "luxury products". Although the company has declared that they have not signed a contract with Armani yet, they have also stated that the new branded phone will be launched in Europe in October. It looks pretty clear that the device is sure to come and that the company's announcement is based on pretty conclusive negotiations.

The Armani name must sound quite good to Samsung, as they are thinking to use it in the TV sets line too. The Armani phone will come equipped with exclusive content and unique user interface. It will surely be a high end device packed with some evolved performances and looking to score big points especially when it comes to design.

Samsung has launched some high-end limited edition mobile phone models in the past too, but they came at some high prices. The Bang & Olufsen fashion phone has been released almost two years ago for the price of USD 1,000. There has been a release this year too, for the Jasper Morrison handset, which came at USD 300.

Samsung now focuses on bringing high-end mobile phones, whereas Sony Ericsson has declared to head their attention to the lower-end ones. This new strategy coming from Samsung is rather risky, especially when considering the fact that they have to maintain their newly earned second place as world's mobile phone producer.
