If, by any chance, you’re forced to regularly move your iMac around (although people generally get laptop computers if they know they’ll be on the move), a mother-daughter team has got you covered. Enter the “Wheels Away” iMac carrier on wheels. Actually, your precious iMac will be entering it.

Designed to be an easy and convenient carrying case to transport your iMac, the iMac carrier weighs 5 lbs, and measures 6” (deep) by 22” (wide) by 19” (high). It comes with a stylish, silver coating that complements your sleek iMac, and boasts detachable wheels and handles. Evidently, the case is waterproof (you don’t want any rain damaging your iMac). It also features one outside utility pocket and two foam sleeves on the inside (for the keyboard and other accessories). Crafted from a durable, textured fabric, the iMac Carrier has foam padding on all sides.

“If you own an iMac, then you understand the difficulties in lugging the computer around,” the people behind the product say. “Up until now you did not have a lot of good options. Now we offer a perfect carrier for your Apple 21 ½ iMac Computer. It is waterproof, durable, lightweight, silver, stylishly sleek. We offer a 30 day warranty,” the makers of Wheels Away claim. The price is a bit steep: $149. However, this bag is not your ordinary millimeter-thin sleeve that you slide a notebook in. There’s also a shipping cost: $10.

Nosing around the Wheels Away website, Softpedia learned how the iMac Carrier actually came about.

“We are a mother-daughter team, who both own an iMac Apple Computer,” the “about us” reads. “We were frustrated each time we went to the Apple store for a workshop and had to take our iMacs. I am a photographer and I lover [sic] the large iMac screen, but I am also 68 years old and cannot carry the iMac, so I needed to have something on wheels. I saw many other people who struggled with lugging the iMac around. Many used the original box, which was cumbersome at best. I finally decided to design a carrier on wheels for myself that was not black or brown, but jazzy. The Wheelsaway is the result. I hope it will make life easier for you iMac users.”

Softpedia note

We can’t help but wonder just how many people need to carry around their desktop Macs. We’re guessing not that many. Add the $150 price tag to that, and you’ve got, what: 10... 15 buyers a year? Plus, we’re not so sure the iMac is meant to be handled this way. Going with that thing over stones and cracks in the sidewalk may have a negative impact on the iMac’s hard drive, for example.

Then again, why use it for the iMac only? The case really does look great, and it’s not like it’ll disintegrate if you put something else in there. The only problem now is thieves. Imagine what will happen if the word gets out that these shiny, silver cases contain iMacs. Better not put your cat in there, just to be safe.
