jAlbum, a tool that can be used to create online photo albums and that has built-in support for organizing and editing images, is now at version 12 and is available for download.

jAlbum, a suite of tools that can be used by photographers, various organizations, or casual users, has been updated yet again. The developers have been working on version number 12 for some time now and this latest update is probably the biggest one made so far.

The Linux platform has no shortage of image editors and optimizers and, in fact, it's one of the things it does best. It can be used by a very wide array of users and most likely you will find some features that you need.

"jAlbum downscales your images to web and thumbnail size, creates complete web pages, and uploads them to jalbum.net or any other website! All you have to do is drag & drop your images to jAlbum and choose a look for your web album!" reads the official jAlbum website.

Besides the basic and advanced editing offered by jAlbum, users can also create photo galleries, apply watermarks, change metadata, sell images, tag photos, organize collections, print images, and even tag photos geographically.

The number of features integrated in jAlbum is quite large and difficult to cover in its entirety. For example, the user interface has been improved, the browser preview has been embedded (it now works on Chromium and it might work on Google Chrome as well), the album preview ca be set to autoupdate, reprocessing already processed images and videos when resuming interrupted album builds is now avoided, the r file attribute caching has been improved (this minimized the access times to the HDD), and the thumbnail painting in the interface is now a lot faster.

Also, a new "Effects" settings tab allowing easy and detailed control of album-wide image effects has been implemented (watermarks, auto-correct, filters, logos, and so on), a "Share" panel has been implemented to simplify the sharing of albums via different social networks, a new Notification Center that remembers and presents notifications has been added, the "Use as folder thumbnail" toolbar button has been added, and logging levels have been implemented.

A complete backlog of changes and new features can be found in the official announcement. You can download jAlbum 12 right now from Softpedia.

The application does carry a price, but it's free for non-commercial use.
