Last year, in June, when Apple announced their plans to transition to Intel processors, they stated that they intend to have the first Intel-based Macs shipping by June this year. June is still far away, and not only has Apple moved a significant number of its Mac models to the Intel Processors, but it seems that the transition is already over for some of them.

The 20-inch 2.1GHz PowerPC iMac has reached its 'End Of Life' according to the Cupertino company. While the product is still available in some stores, a note to resellers officially declared its EOL.

"With immediate effect, the following product and its relate configurations are "End of Life" (EOL) and no further orders can be taken," Apple explains.

If you have already pre-ordered one of the old iMac models, you may or may not get it. Apple warns that all outstanding orders for which no stock is available will be canceled. Apple will not be automatically revising existing PowerPC iMac orders to the new Intel iMac.

So far, the iMac, PowerBook and mini models have migrated to Intel architecture, with the mini being the most recent upgrade. Apple want to transition all of its models to Intel processors by the end of the year, and is certainly moving swiftly in that direction. So far, only the iMac has reached the end of life for the PowerPC versions but the others are soon likely to follow.
