Though the AMD Radeon HD 6950 was released quite a while ago, it looks like OEMs are still not done with making custom versions of it, as proven, most recently at least, by PowerColor.

It looks like companies from around the world really are quite focused on promoting their graphics cards, both new and old.

Just a short time ago, Sapphire made a sort of jump into the past, so to speak, and unveiled a pair of 5000 series Radeon cards (HD 5830 and 5850 Xtreme).

Now, PowerColor is revealed to have created its newest version of a more contemporary board, that being the Radeon HD 6950.

For those in need of a reminder, the HD 6950 is the second strongest high-end, DirectX 11-ready AMD on today's market, not counting the dual-GPU HD 6990.

PowerColor's new model is dubbed PowerColor HD 6950 Vortex Edition and has a measure of user-adjustability, like all in that series. For instance, the fan height (distance between them and the heatsink) can be adjusted.

Unfortunately, there is no official word on the exact specifications, except what can be gleamed from a pair of photos.

The PCS+ PCB appears to be used, along with the signature cooler and two DVI ports, plus an HDMI 1.4 connector and a pair of mini DisplayPort outputs.

What's more, the memory interface of 256 bits and the 1,440 Stream Processors should not have suffered any changes, though it is not clear if there will be 1 GB or 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM.

Of course, the outfit may decide to just unleash two models for each capacity, complete with factory overclocking. Either way, one can only wait and see before learning more, although there is no way of knowing how long the waiting part will last.

In the meantime, the original Radeon HD 6950 can be examined here.
