PowerColor has just announced the release of a new high-performance graphics card based on the AMD Radeon HD 6970 design, which uses a custom design in order to deliver higher gaming performance as well as silent operation.

The new card is dubbed the Devil 13 HD6970 and doesn't seem to resemble in any way AMD's reference design for the Radeon HD 6970, since PowerColor went with a cooling system developed in-house.

Unlike AMD's design, the new cooler uses a pair of 92mm fans, which PowerColor says provide 60% better air flow than a regular 80mm fan, as well as four large copper heatpipes with a 8mm diameter to draw the heat away from the GPU and into an aluminum heatsink.

In addition to the cooling assembly, the PCB of the Devil 13 was also redesigned to fit better quality components, such as a 12 phase VRM, a proadlizer chip and Direct FET capacitors.

All these modifications should help improve the overclocking headroom of the card, and PowerColor has also included a special OC mode that can be activated by a simple flick of the switch.

When this OC BIOS is used, the card will raise its GPU frequency from the stock 880MHz to an impressive 960MHz, wile the 2GB of video buffer will work at 1425MHz compared with the 1375MHz of the stock BIOS.

To better cater to the needs of overclockers, PowerColor's latest creation is equipped with a series of voltage measurement points and also includes a special LED that changes color in order to show the working status of the GPU.

No information regarding the pricing of the Devil 13 HD6970 was revealed, but the graphics card card should arrive into retail at the end of October. Outside of the video card itself, the Devil 13 HD6970 is also bundled together with a matching tool set.
