Now that most of NVIDIA's partners have more or less finished feeding the stream of GeForce GTX 580 releases, market watchers are again paying attention to other products, such as a certain iteration of AMD's Radeon HD 6870.

NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 580, which was brought to market just a couple of days ago, is the most recent major release on the video card market.

Not long before its launch, however, Advanced Micro Devices brought forth the Radeon HD 6000 series, which became a visible presence on the higher half of the mainstream market.

The more powerful of the two models launched, the HD 6870 and HD 6850, is, as one can easily guess, the former.

Already AMD's partners delivered customized versions, with or without factory overclocking.

Now, PowerColor is revealed to be working on yet another board, one with both tweaked clocks and a custom-made cooler.

The card in question is the PowerColor PCS+ 6870 and has the Barts graphics processing unit (GPU) running at 940 MHz, a bit of a jump over the 900 MHz of the stock version.

There is also 1 GB of GDDR5 memory, with a frequency of 4,400 MHz (4,200 stock) and an interface of 254 bits.

Needless to say, the incoming board has full support for not just DirectX 11 graphics, but also AMD's own technologies, like CrossFireX, for multi-GPU configurations, and Eyefinity, for multi-monitor setups.

Finally, in order to allow said one or more displays to connect to the card, it is equipped with a pair of mini DisplayPort outputs, as well as dual DVI and an HDMI port.

Unfortunately, the report held no actual information on the final price, but did mention that availability is slated for the end of November. This means that interested end-users won't have to wait overly long for this final detail to be made public.
