For both client and server

The evolution of Windows client and server operating systems past the RTM deadline of Windows 7 on July 22nd, 2009, is a process kept under a tight lid in Redmond. However, while Microsoft is not sharing any details related to the development of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows 8 with the public, some pieces of information do manage to find their way out into the wild. Case in point: Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900 of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Screenshots and information of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Build 7700.0.100122-1900 have been leaked and are available outside of Redmond, first for the server OS and now for the client.

There’s nothing particularly noticeable about Build 7700.0.100122-1900 of Windows 7, and users will be able to see this for themselves via the screenshots included at the bottom of this article, courtesy of Wzor. However, to early adopters that have hunted down development milestone after development milestone of Windows 7 since the end of 2008, and throughout the first half of 2009, Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900 represents the proof that there is life after Windows 7.

In fact, Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900 supersedes Build 6.1.7600.16385, which was the RTM release of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Microsoft is apparently working on both SP1 in the winmain_sp branch and on the evolution of Windows 7 itself in the winmain branch. If Windows 7 SP1 pre-Beta is up to version 7601.16486.100115-1536, Microsoft has compiled a few versions of post-RTM Windows 7, including Builds: 7691.0.100106-1825, 7692.0.100107-1735, 7693.0.100111-1820, 7694.0.100113-1753, 7695.0.100114-1855, and 7696.0.100115-1725. The company is now up to Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900.

With no official word from Microsoft, there’s no telling what exactly is the place of Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900 in the puzzle that is the evolution of Windows. Still, 7700.0.100122-1900 offers the undeniable, tangible proof that the Redmond company is hard at work in its way to Windows 8, the successor of Windows 7. Wzor also made public the information accompanying the latest Build of Windows 7, post-RTM, namely: FILE: 7700.0.100122-1900_x64fre_client_en-us-GRMCXFRE_EN_DVD.iso; SIZE: 3,231,166,464 byte, SHA1: C0CB719B781D49B39D8CC93A27F990A366B8E4C7, MD5: EBEB8AEC73339536564D26DB584A9474 and CRC: B3F323D6. However, at this point in time, the actual bits of Windows 7 post-RTM Build 6.1.7700.0.100122-1900 have not been leaked.
