The third DSLR camera Canon might release could be the 5D Mark IV

Word on the street has it Canon will be launching only three DSLR cameras this year. One of them has already made it among us, in the form of the Canon EOS 1200D / Rebel T5 / Kiss X70.

The second one is probably the Canon 7D Mark II, a camera set to replace the EOS 7D and is expected to show its face around Photokina 2014.

But Canon is also said to be prepping a DSLR camera with a high-megapixel full frame image sensor, set to arrive until 2014 comes to an end, although we won’t hear anything of it at the NAB Show (via Photografix-Magazin).

Sources familiar with the matter are pointing towards the direction of a Canon EOS 3D, but that doesn't translate into the Japanese maker launching a 3D capable shooter. Instead they are referring to a DSLR from the 5D Mark III series.

So, the camera might turn out to be the Canon 4D Mark IV instead of a Canon 1D X replacement, as it was originally rumored. The specs for the rumored camera include the ability to shoot 4K video and the availability of a whole host of feats aimed at video photography.

On top of that, the rich megapixel camera is expected to arrive with a higher price tag than the Canon 5DMK3, currently selling for around $3,000 / €2,175 in places like Amazon.
