Your eyes may deceive you, as what you are seeing in the gallery below are not photographs, but incredibly realistic ballpoint pen drawings created by talented Portuguese artist Samuel Silva. Although it may be hard to believe, they are made out using nothing else than ballpoint pens.

Silva, who is a lawyer by profession, says that drawing is merely a hobby for him, but he certainly manages to impress through his artwork. I think that knowing that producing art is just a hobby for him makes his works even more unbelievable.

Using just a common set of eight different colored ballpoint pens, he creates amazingly photorealistic portraits of people, animals and landscapes. It takes him from 5 to 50 hours to finish each drawing, but nothing seems to be too much for the talented illustrator.

Talking about his hobby, Silva says, “I have been interested in drawing since the very first time I ever touched a pencil and a sheet of paper, when I was two years old. After that day, I never stopped drawing.”

His first ever work was a portrait based on a photograph of a Russian model. It took him 30 long hours to create the masterpiece, which was then published in his portfolio called the “Redhead Girl.”
