The Portland Aquarium opened back in December 2012. Since then, about 200 of the animals the facility's employees were supposed to look after have passed away.

The animals were eels, sea stars, fish, crabs, sea horses and even bamboo sharks.

By the looks of it, most of these deaths occurred due to infections, improper temperatures inside the animals' enclosures and even starvation.

What's more, some of the animals passed away after getting into fights with one another and sustaining noteworthy injuries, an inside source has told the press.

As was to be expected, the Oregon Humane Society was quick to intervene.

The organization is presently investigating the circumstances in which the animals have passed away, and is looking to determine whether or not aquarium owner Vince Covino must be held accountable for their death.

The latter maintains that the 10,000 animals presently living at the Portland Aquarium are well looked after, and that the death rate reported at his facility is no different from the one reported at other aquariums across the country.
