Valve has confirmed that a new downloadable add-on for Portal 2 will be released next month, in the form of the Perpetual Testing Initiative, which will allow users to create their own test chambers in an easier way and export them to the Steam Workshop.

Portal 2 impressed lots of gamers last year when it was released by Valve for the PC, Mac, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Since then, the company has released a batch of DLC in the form of new test chambers for the game’s cooperative mode.

Now, the company has announced that another add-on will be released early next month, in the form of the Perpetual Testing Initiative.

Like its name suggests, the add-on will allow players to create their own test chambers thanks to a simplified in-game editor, thereby continuing to perform tests for the title’s fictional Aperture Science facility.

“The "Perpetual Testing Initiative" allows players to easily create, share, and play Portal 2 puzzles,” Valve said. “The Initiative comes with a simplified puzzle maker that allows the creation of mind-bending puzzles without ever leaving the game.”

Once the test chambers are completed in the game’s new editor, they can be exported into the Steam Workshop on the PC and Mac, from where players can browse, vote, and download the most interesting chambers.

Valve will also select certain puzzles and bundle them with Portal 2 in order to show players what the community can create.

Creation of extra test chambers for Portal 2’s single-player or cooperative multiplayer modes was possible up until now, but players needed to use Valve’s own complicated technology to create them, a process that wasn’t as intuitive as some players had hoped.

With the Perpetual Testing Initiative, however, Valve is going to remedy this, so those with less technical knowledge will be able to create their own test chambers.

The DLC will come out on May 8 for Portal 2 on the PC and Mac platforms.
