Portable batteries have started to catch on with all sorts of people, so it is no wonder that Quirky has decided to try its luck in this particular market segment. It has introduced the Pickup Power.

The name “Pickup Power” doesn't really do a good job of suggesting what the product is and what it does.

Some might be tempted to think it is a sort of power outlet that isn't stuck to the wall, or something along those lines.

The truth is that the Pickup Power is actually a power bar with three AC outputs, three USB ports and a 4,000 mAh battery.

According to the company, Pickup Power is “a tabletop power strip that houses stationary, portable, and USB power in single beautifully designed unit.”

Said battery provides the energy needed to replenish the power supplies of the smartphones, tablets, gadgets and even other portable batteries.

The 4,000 mAh battery always recharges while it is docked (via electrical contacts in the base unit), but its true usefulness is in situations when there is no power socket nearby, like during camping trips or some such occasion.

Then again, there are fold out wall plugs to charge on the go, and the battery can be its own USB adapter while plugged in.

“It includes everything you need to keep your devices juiced and ready for use,” Quirky says.

As for the materials used in its making, they are high gloss plastic body and base, plus a sticky silicone base.

Production has been given the green light, so Quirky should have the item up for sale sooner rather than later. No price has been mentioned, sadly, but all the other information has been neatly condensed into a product page and image gallery, located on the official website at the other end of this link.
