This week, luxury brand Porsche Design announced the launch of a new flavor of the popular Porsche Design P‘9981 BlackBerry smartphone, all dressed up in black.

The new flavor of the mobile phone packs a completely black design, which is meant to further emphasize the iconic essence of the brand.

The device keeps the same looks as the initial model, including the internal hardware and the BlackBerry features and capabilities, but completely changes its color.

The new Porsche Design P‘9981 Black is expected to become available for purchase in mid-January 2013, and will be sold through all Porsche Design stores all over the world, as well as through the company’s online shop.

Porsche Design also explains that the black version of the device comes with a stylish new take on a product that packs high-quality materials.

The handset comes with a stainless steel frame that has been encased in black plastic, while also featuring a hand-applied leather backing.

Furthermore, the handset comes with a special black QWERTY (QWERTZ) keyboard, as well as with a crystal-clear touchscreen display.

There is also the customized Porsche Design user interface that was packed inside the first P’9981, as well as the exclusive, premium Blackberry-Messenger-PIN.

“Since the very beginning, our brand has been identified with the color black. Our very first product was a completely black watch. It was a revolutionary product at the time and proved to be a great talking point all over the world,” said Jürgen Geßler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group.

“As is typical of Porsche Design, the choice of black had a functional significance. The “Chronograph I” was inspired by the non-reflective design of racing car controls, with everything in matt black apart from the instruments. The aim was to ensure a clear and easy-to-read display. The Porsche Design P‘9981 Black follows this tradition.”
