Controversial movie streaming service Popcorn Time will soon arrive on Windows Phone as well thanks to a dedicated app specifically created for Microsoft's platform, the developing group behind the app has confirmed today.

At this point, Popcorn Time works on the most popular platforms on the market, including Windows and Mac computers but also Android and iOS, so Windows Phone was the only big name missing from the list. This is going to change soon, developers have said, but no other specifics have been provided.

It remains to be seen, however, if Popcorn Time can be published in the store, as it continues to be a very controversial product whose developers are often accused of providing access to pirated content, including the newest movies and TV shows out there.

And yet, chances are that Windows Phone users will be required to manually download the app, as Microsoft is very unlikely to approve it to be listed in the store. The same is happening with the Android port, where users need to get it from the official website and not from the Play store.

“A real challenge”

The developing team that created the app claims that keeping Popcorn Time alive and bringing it to new platforms, including Windows Phone, is a real challenge “because you can't imagine how many people want it to vanish off the face of the Internet.”

And it's easy to see why. At this point, Popcorn Time, which has millions of users on all supported platforms, especially on PCs, provides one of the easiest ways to watch the latest movies on your computer, obviously without paying a single cent.

The app comes with an impressive feature lineup, including high-quality videos and subtitles, but for more information you can check out our Popcorn Time review that provides an in-depth look at every single option offered to users.
