Best casual games coming to Sony's console

Yes, there are at most 10 types of casual game concepts out there and developers keep rebuilding them, changing the graphics or the story a little - but they are still the same. Yes, all these games keep selling. PopCap, at least, is one of the companies that came with some new things and, why not to admit it, they really managed to deliver some hit titles until now.

Having in mind that their games are indeed great ways of spending your free time, we can understand the need of a small collection for the PlayStation 2: one that has two of the best PopCap games up to date, Zuma and Heavy Weapon. Oh, just remembering the non stop hours I've spent with Zuma is enough to make me want to get my PS2 out, wipe the dust off it and get it ready for the PopCap Games collection! Still, I will have some waiting to do since it will only hit the stores all over the world starting June 2008.

"We're pleased to be bringing our second PlayStation2 'greatest hits' compilation to stores so quickly after the first volume, and expect the upcoming product to be even more popular with consumers," said Greg Canessa, VP of Video Game Platforms at PopCap. "Heavy Weapon and Zuma are two of our most successful games on the Xbox Live Arcade Service, and should prove equally well received by the PlayStation 2 audience."

For those of you who lived in a cave or considered casual games a shame or something only kids should play, here are a few details: Zuma is a fast-paced action puzzler requiring quick reflexes and pattern-solving strategy as players rotate the stone frog at the center of the screen to shoot colored balls into place, creating sequences of at least 3 balls of the same color. Easy and addicting. Heavy Weapon is a light-hearted side-scrolling action game in which players strive to defeat hordes of enemy armies in the form of tanks, jeeps, fighter jets, helicopters and other land and air vehicles. What's even greater about Heavy Weapons is that the PS2 version will allow multiplayer modes, adding more fun to the game.

So, if you were to ask me, PopCap Hits Volume 2 is a must for every PlayStation 2 owner. As I said, it will be released in June and carries a recommended price of $19.95.
