After viruses with attitude, Sophos warned users about a new virus which was released into the wild which is carrying a political message. The Deadcode.A virus infects executable files on PCs and displays the message "Blackhand.w32 Long Live Great SERBIA" when these files are launched.

The security company said that this statement is being used by a Serbian politician named Tomislav Nicolic, and this is the ending phrase for all his public appearances.

Also according to Sophos, in the late 1990s, Serbian nationalists calling themselves Crna Ruka, or Black Hand, defaced Croation and Albanian websites with a similar message. These hackers borrowed the name from the Black Hand Gang, who murdered prince Franz Ferdinand in Sarajaevo, even which lead to the outburst of world war one.

Viruses linked to political maneuvers or simple statement is more and more of a contemporary reality for the cybernetic environment.

In December 2004, the Maslan worm appeared to be politically motivated, and infected machines trying to launch afterwards a denial-of-service attack against websites owned by Chechen separatists, according to antivirus firm Sophos.

According to Symantec W32.Maslan.C@mm was a mass-mailing worm that opened a back door and exploited system vulnerabilities on the compromised computer.

Another computer worm which first surfaced a couple of weeks ago, claimed to offer photographic evidence that Saddam Hussein had been killed and Osama Bin Laden had been captured. Anti-virus experts have warned computer users that attempting to open the fake images would lead to an infected PC. The Bobax-H worm spread both via email and using a Microsoft security hole that was first reported back in April 2004 and has been previously exploited by the infamous Sasser worm.

Emails generated by Bobax-H used a number of different message texts including: "Saddam Hussein - Attempted Escape, Shot dead. Attached some pics that i found".
