Earlier today we told you about the Australian dual-OS tablet that can run both Android and Ubuntu. But if your heart is still set on a device capable of switching between Android and Windows 8 and you still mourn the loss of the ASUS Transformer Book Duet, we have a possible replacement for you.
Here comes the funnily named Pokini TAB A8, a tablet offering dual-OS (Windows 8.1 Pro / Windows 7 and Android) functionality. The slate might as well be one of the first rugged tablets on the market capable of running two operating systems.
The tablet offers an 8.3-inch form factor, comes with a robust housing and will become available later next month, says TabTech. Furthermore, the device can be configured individually and there’s a host of useful accessories to pair it with too.
Now let’s take a more detailed look at its specifications. The Pokini TAB A8 offers full HD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels) and its display can be operated when using gloves.
Under the hood there lies an Intel quad-core Bay Trail Z3745 processor fitted with 2GB of RAM and either 32GB/64GB or 128GB of internal storage.
Other points of interest of the tablet include two cameras (8MP on the back and a 2MP one up front), NFC, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, micro USB, micro HDMI and optional UMTS.
The producing company promises that the Pokini TAB A8 can run as long as 8 to 10 hours and the battery is interchangeable, which means that the tablet’s life can be extended.
There’s no information whether the pre-installed Windows 8.1 Pro is 32- or 64-bit nor do we know which version of Android users will have access to.
Being a rugged tablet, the Pokini Tab A8 is protected from dust, water and drops from up to 1 m / 3.2 feet.
As for accessories, there’s plenty to choose from, including a rubberized protective case and leather protective case with integrated USB keyboard. Furthermore, various mounts to be used in different environments are also being offered.
If an 8-incher isn't enough for you and you want a tablet with a more spacious display, you should know that in July a 10-inch model will become available.
For the moment, pricing specifications are unknown and there’s no info about availability either. However, given the fact that this is a dual OS machine, prices are bound to be pretty high. So before getting all excited about such a machine, you should consider if you really need a device like this in your life.
