The Pokemon Company International and Nintendo have announced that their newly launched Pokemon Black and White pair of video games for the Nintendo DS have managed to sell no less than 3 million copies in the United States and in Europe in their first two weeks on sales.

J.C. Smith, who is the director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International, has stated, “The global buzz created by Pokémon’s record-breaking video games, Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version, and brand new animation inspired by the new Unova region is truly remarkable.”

He added, “There’s more excitement to come and we look forward to working with existing and new partners to provide superior entertainment to our millions of fans around the world.”

The Black and White versions only have small differences, but the two games’ launch encourages the player base to connect to one another and trade content while engaging in multiplayer games.

The Pokemon Company is emphasizing the cross media nature of the franchise, saying that fans that are growing tired of playing the new Pokemon games can look forward to the 14th season of the television show, which has been previewed very positively, and the thirteenth movie in the series, called Pokemon—Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

Those interested only in the video game component of the Pokemon world will be pleased to know that the Trading Card Game will get an expansion named Black & White that will include three main theme decks on April 6 and another four booster packs on April 25.

The Pokemon Company International and Nintendo are also presumably working on a new video game that will use the unique glasses-free three-dimensional gaming capabilities of the new Nintendo 3DS handheld.

There is also the possibility that older games in the series might be remade for the new device.
