Two PC classics go handheld

The Nintendo DS handheld is already offering a huge array of products and one can only wonder if there still are classic titles that were not released on the gaming console. Apparently, there are, since Avanquest Software has decided to bring to the DS two of the most popular casual puzzle games in the world: Jewel Quest Expeditions and Mah Jong Expeditions. The two titles will be released on the 12th of September and we all believe they will have the utmost success.

According to the developers, Jewel Quest Expeditions has no less than 15 million players worldwide, and that's a pretty solid base to start with. Another strong reason to make us understand that this game indeed has much to offer is the fact that it hosts 180 levels.

In the DS version, you'll have to work through each of the boards using the stylus or control pad to select adjacent rows of colored jewels, turning the blocks underneath into gold before the timer runs out. But you probably know the concept already. What you don't know is the fact that the handheld version comes with a multiplayer option, allowing up to eight people to compete in their race against time.

Mah Jong Expeditions is another of those games which no longer need any description - you've certainly heard about them before and you must have played at least one in your life. If you have not, it's your loss!

The DS version of the game features classic Mah Jong gameplay with an "intriguing twist", according to Avanquest; unfortunately, they don't offer further details. However, they do promise to bring a story to the game, as strange as it might sound: the world has fallen into a state of imbalance and only you can restore harmony. Are you up for the challenge? If so, the date you're waiting for is the 12th of September.
