Although Plextor's not really a traditional SSD (solid state drive) manufacturer, that's not stopping the company from tackling this very lucrative market segment with their brand-new M2S Series, that offers not only some pretty impressive data storage capabilities, but also high data transfer rates.

The new series of 2.5-inch solid-state drives is available in 3 different capacities (64GB, 128GB and 256GB) and attains some pretty impressive access times, namely read speeds of up to 480MB/s and write speeds of up to 330MB/s, attained with the help of the built-in SATA III 6 GB/s interface.

Another reason why the Plextor SSDs offer such a good level of performance is related to the fact that they pack the server-grade Marvell 88SS9174 control chip, as well as 128GB DDR3 cache to improve data transfer speeds.

Moreover, the M2S Series drives come packed with a Dynamic Wear Leveling system that improves data allocation for longevity, as well as the latest Windows 7 TRIM command for data-wiping efficiency.

It's also important to point out that the new SSD drives come packed with the 'Instant Restore Technology' developed by Plextor, a solution designed to prevent performance loss from occurring and providing long-term stability.

Also, in order tom make migration easier, the SSD series will be also bundled with the Acronis True Image software application, that will allow users to mirror the contents of their primary HDD partition onto the SSD in a very fast and easy manner.

Plextor was kind enough to inform us that their M2S Series SSDs will be launching in Europe and UK in March 2011, but, unfortunately, they've not provided any significant pricing details related to this super-fast data storage units, mentioning, however, that we should expect these important pieces of information to be officially provided when the drives officially go on sale.
