The music game genre is definitely on a high ascending trend these days, as more and more customers are looking for titles like Rock Band or Wii Music to have fun. These games certainly have a lot of advantages and the fact that you can play with your whole family as one band is extremely attractive for a lot of people.

But, there has always been one major drawback to buying different music games, as a lot of them come with their own custom peripherals, like plastic guitars, drums or microphones, and people don't really like to clutter up their living rooms with such things. But Harmonix, the company behind the very popular Rock Band title, has said on more than one occasion that it aims to have its game compatible with several instruments in order for gamers not to clutter up their living rooms.

Now, it seems that this aspect is finally getting done, as Harmonix and Microsoft have announced that they are partnering up to make the wireless microphone from the Xbox 360 karaoke game Lips compatible with Rock Band 2. Although it hasn’t been revealed just how much progress the two companies have registered, this will definitely make quite a lot of gamers happy, as the wireless microphone would be a welcomed replacement for the standard one Rock Band 2 ships with.

“Microsoft and MTV Games are working together to ensure that consumers will be able to use the wireless mics from ‘Lips’ with ‘Rock Band 2’ after launch. More details on timing to come. Harmonix and MTV Games strive for all third-party controllers to work with the Rock Band games, fitting with Harmonix’ open-platform philosophy for controllers,” read the press release made by the two companies.

All in all, this is great news for those who want to free up their living rooms from all of the plastic peripherals needed for different games. Let's just hope that other companies will take notice of the efforts that Harmonix and Microsoft are making and will act accordingly.
