Gamers will be able to use stealth or a heads-on approach

The developers at IO Interactive working on Hitman: Absolution have stressed that they are always looking to offer the player choices when it comes to gameplay and that gamers will be able to decide on their own how much they focus on stealth.

Speaking to PSM 3, Christian Elverdam, the game director for Hitman: Absolution, addressed the newly introduced Instinct Meter, saying that the concept exists in order to help players better evaluate their situation at any given point in the game.

But the developer says that the old guard, who might see the Meter as cheating, has the option of eliminating the mechanics altogether.

Elverdam said, “The first thing is, if you don’t like it you can turn it off. But we’re getting feedback from user sessions, even people who have played all our games, and they actually like Instinct.

“It has less of an impact when you play it than you think; it just removes one layer of thought and puts it onto the game, so you’re looking at what’s going on right now, instead of thinking about other stuff.”

Those who are interested in playing the upcoming Hitman: Absolution as a straight-up action game can do so and they will be able to enjoy the narrative that IO Interactive has created. But a stealth approach is better suited for those who plan to explore the depth of the game.

When Hitman: Absolution was announced those who loved the first titles in the series expressed their concern that the game will be “dumbed down” in order to be accessible to a modern player base.

IO Interactive and publisher Square Enix have repeatedly said that the new game will be more cinematic in nature, but that it will also stick close to the traditional mechanics of the series.

Hitman: Absolution is set to arrive on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 during the fall of this year.
