Barely has the PlayStation Vita been released in its native Japan and already quite a few customers are complaining that their new handheld consoles are faulty, some citing frequent freezing, which means they need to do a hard shutdown, or issues relating to the OLED touchscreen of the device, which can’t be fixed as of yet.

The PlayStation Vita was eagerly awaited by lots of people in Japan, so its release last week, on December 17, saw quite a lot of units being sold to loyal fans throughout the Asian country.

Sadly, it seems that some of them are now being disappointed by the device due to technical issues, ranging from small and annoying ones to huge problems that can’t be fixed by quick solutions.

According to Kotaku, lock-ups and freezing issues are quite frequent, with some people saying that the PlayStation Vita becomes unresponsive during certain tasks. One professional reviewer even saw the Vita freeze completely during an online session of Shin Sangoku Musou Next.

According to Sony’s manual for the Vita, such a problem can be solved by holding down the power button for over 20 seconds, thus performing a hard shutdown, and then pressing it for five seconds to power it back on.

Other owners are reporting issues with their touchscreens, some being filled with spots or stains that ruin the whole experience, while others displaying odd colors instead of natural ones. There have even been a few cases when the touchscreen wouldn’t respond to presses, or if it did, responded with a delay.

As of yet, Sony has yet to comment on these issues, but it’s not out of the ordinary to hear about some faulty devices being released with all-new products. Let’s hope that the company will manage to eliminate these problems once the PlayStation Vita is released in Europe and North America in February, 2012.
