Right before the official launch of the PlayStation Vita that’s set to happen tomorrow, February 22, Sony has deployed a fresh firmware update, which takes the software of the handheld console to version 1.61.

Since the release of the PS Vita in Japan last December, Sony has deployed a few firmware updates that added new features to the device.

Now, ahead of the portable console’s launch in North America and Europe tomorrow, the Japanese company has deployed a smaller software update for the PS Vita, taking its firmware up to version 1.61.

The new update doesn’t add that many new features over the previous one, 1.60, but it’s still mandatory if you want to access the PlayStation Store from your new handheld console.

Check out the features included in the PS Vita’s firmware 1.61 below.

- A new application, (Maps), has been added to the home screen. - In addition to photos, you can now take videos using the Photo application. - You can now publish stories about the products that you rate in PlayStation Store to Facebook. - In near, players’ information is now displayed on the Discoveries screen. On this screen, a list of the online IDs of up to 100 players that you have encountered, and the number of times that you encountered each player, are displayed. Tap an online ID to display that player’s profile screen. - The Mac OS version of Content Manager Assistant for PlayStation has been released. The Windows version has also been updated. Vita owners who have already updated their device to 1.60 will only notice some improvements in certain aspects of the console’s software, according to Sony.

You can update your PlayStation Vita either by connecting it to a wireless hotspot and going to System Update option in its Settings menu, or by connecting it to a PlayStation 3 or PC/Mac computer, which already have an Internet connection.
