Sony has confirmed that it’s going to take its PlayStation Network online service offline today, July 26, in territories like Europe, Australia, or the Middle East, for planned maintenance.

After the already infamous cyber-attack of last year, Sony has been trying to keep its PlayStation Network as secure as possible, even if this means that it needs to take the service offline sporadically in order to update core systems and servers.

Such a period of planned maintenance is set to start today, July 26, when the PSN will go offline in territories like Europe, Australia, New Zealand, or the Middle East.

The offline period starts at around 4pm GMT and is set to end on July 27, at around 8am GMT.

During the maintenance, owners of PlayStation devices will be unable to access the following services: PlayStation Store on PS3, PSP and PS Vita. PlayStation Network Account Management. PlayStation Network Account Registration. As always, thanks to the special nature of the PSN, multiplayer will still be enabled, provided you sign into the PSN before the planned maintenance period starts.

“If you wish to play online during the maintenance, then you may be able to do so if you sign in to PSN before the start of the maintenance window. However, please note that all the services listed above will not be available, even if you are signed into the Network,” Sony said.

“During this maintenance, you can continue to collect in-game trophies and these will be updated on your profile once PlayStation Network is back up and running.”

As of yet, this planned maintenance has been confirmed only for territories like Europe, Australia, New Zealand, or the Middle East, so it’s unclear if it will spread to other PSN regions like North America or Asia.

Expect to hear more about the maintenance period ahead of its start tomorrow.
