Sony has just revealed that it will be taking down its PlayStation Network online service today, January 19, from 8am until 9pm, PST.

Sony is still trying to win back the trust of its customers after the shameful hacker attack of last year, which saw its PSN go offline for almost a whole month, during which owners of its PS3 or PSP consoles were unable to play online or download new things.

Since then, the company has tried to keep PSN offline periods to a minimum, in order to provide gamers with a stable service. Maintenance periods are still required, however, in order to ensure that the service stays secure and any problems that are encountered by users are eliminated.

The latest of these planned maintenance periods takes place today, January 19, between 8am and 9pm PST.

During that time, PSN users won’t be able to access a variety of services, including the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Home. Check out the areas affected by the maintenance period below. - PlayStation Store on PS3, PSP, and Media Go - PlayStation Network Account Management - PlayStation Network Account Registration - PlayStation Home - Music Unlimited & Video Unlimited services Throughout the maintenance period, users can continue to collect in-game trophies and these will be updated once the PSN is fully operational. Those who sign in to the accounts before the start of the period will remain connected.

“Users who are already signed into their account on PlayStation Network before the start of the maintenance should be able to stay signed in to their online session, but will not be able to access any of the services listed above,” Sony revealed. “Users who attempt to sign-in to their PlayStation Network account after the start of the maintenance may be presented with the site maintenance notification page if they haven’t signed in recently.”

In case something goes wrong or the maintenance period is extended, expect more details.
