Sony, after the NPD group revealed its sales data for the month of October, has focused its own statements on the recently launched PlayStation Move, saying that it has sold over 1.5 million units in Europe, and that it is "doing extremely well" in North America.

The NPD Group's hardware sales data once again showcased that the Xbox 360 reigned supreme over the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3, but Sony isn't worried, saying, once more, that it has a big momentum going into the holiday season.

According to the Sony Computer Entertainment America PR boss Patrick Seybold, the PlayStation 3, alongside the newly revealed PlayStation Move motion control accessory, are doing extremely well, but declined to offer any numbers.

"There's no question we're experiencing incredible momentum behind the PS3 this year and this holiday is already stacking up to be another great season of innovation and family fun for consumers. PlayStation Move is performing extremely well at retail and we'll have plenty of new games coming to keep consumers busy this holiday from our first party studios and publishing partners, such as SingStar Dance, The Fight, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11," said Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications at SCEA.

On the other hand, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe boss Andrew House did offer some specific numbers about the PlayStation Move, saying that the new peripheral managed to sell somewhere around 1.5 million units during its first month of retail availability.

In an interview with Bloomberg, House says that the Move has had "very significant sales in the first month since launch, somewhere in the region of 1.5 million units for the new controller across just Europe."

He added, "The initial sales response has been so far in excess of our initial plan that we’ll probably be looking at accelerating production."

So, even though the PS3 is still lagging behind the Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii, the Move is proving to be a pretty good gamble on behalf of Sony.

Now, it's up to Microsoft to deliver on its own words when it will launch the Kinect motion detection system for the Xbox 360 at the beginning of November.
