Since the restoration of the PlayStation Network online service, together with all of its components, including the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Home, Sony reveals that it has seen a massive increase in user activity.

As you all know, PlayStation 3 and PSP owners were left without the PSN for quite some time, after a hacker attack forced Sony to take it down and rebuild the service.

Now, things are almost back to normal, with 90 percent of the PSN online service being up and running.

According to Sony, the service, particularly the PlayStation Home online environment, saw massive increases in user activity, partly due to the 100 free items offered by Sony as a welcome back gift to users and because the company's E3 conference was streamed through the service.

"We’re having record traffic in Home," said Jack Buser, PlayStation Home director, to GamaSutra.

"The week we restored the service, we hit a new record in terms of weekly unique users. We were watching the numbers and we were just so excited. We were just dancing in the streets. The numbers are through the roof. I think it speaks to the loyalty of our user base, and to the power of these kinds of platforms."

The PlayStation Home network has been heavily promoted by Sony, but users haven't exactly been flocking to the online service that wants to serve as a social gathering place for all PlayStation users, where they can talk, interact, play various mini-games and visit themed locations, with the ability to purchase virtual items for their characters to use or wear.

Hopefully, this increase in activity is going to once again motivate Sony to invest in the service and make it more attractive for users that want to spend some time with like-minded individuals over the web, right from their PlayStation 3 console.
