The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation 4 home console announces that it is planning to launch a new headset for the PlayStation 4 in time for the coming fall launch season, while also giving gamers access to more colors for the DualShock 4 game controller.

The official announcement on the PS Blog states that players will be first able to take home a white glacier style PS4, which is offered at the moment only as part of a bundle with the new Destiny title, which also includes the same color DualShock 4 controller and an even more limited white version of the Gold Wireless Stereo Headset.

The team adds, "We also have an exclusive Destiny audio mode that will be available via the free Headset Companion App for PS4 and PS3 starting tomorrow. Enjoy the sounds of the Destiny universe the way Bungie intended with this custom-tuned audio mode for the Gold Wireless Stereo Headset."

More options for long-time fans

The all new Silver Wired Stereo Headset for the PlayStation 4 and the PS3 is set to be launched for 69.99 dollars or Euro and will be offered later in the fall, probably at some point in October.

The official features list includes: immersive 7.1 virtual surround sound; custom audio modes created by developers specifically for PlayStation games; retractable boom mic for voice chat while playing online; breathable ear cushions and a lightweight design for hours of gameplay; in-line volume and mic controls.

The new Silver Wired Stereo Headset can also be used with the PlayStation Vita handheld and many mobile devices using a 3.5 mm jack.

When it comes to DualShock 4, gamers can get the controller in Wave Blue and Urban Camouflage, in order to mix and match their devices with the version of the console they own.

The battle for Christmas

Sony has heavily marketed the connection between the PlayStation 4 and the newly launched Destiny and will probably see increased sales of its hardware, which will get access to exclusive content for one year.

At the same time, the current-gen console has a solid lead in sales over its nearest rival, the Xbox One from Microsoft, and has managed to deliver more than 10 million units to gamers worldwide.

Sony will probably announce a number of other hardware bundles in the coming weeks, designed to offer players options when they go out in order to get presents for their families and friends for Christmas.
