Sony believes in consumer flexibility and pledged that it won't try to push on gamers extra PlayStation 4 peripherals like the PS4 Camera, which isn't even a part of the core package.

Sony presented the PS4, the DualShock 4 controller, and the PS4 Camera (formerly known as the PS4 Eye) back in February, and it was rumored that the accessories would be included in the retail pack.

That didn't happen, as Sony is selling its PS4 with just a DualShock 4 controller.

The decision was made not to achieve a lower cost, but to benefit consumers, according to the boss of the PlayStation division, Andrew House.

"There's consumer flexibility," House told The Guardian. "We have a camera which will build some great consumer experiences, especially when it's used in conjunction with the Dual-Shock 4, but we're not mandating that, or forcing that purchase on the consumer."

Sony's PS4 is 100 USD/EUR cheaper than the Xbox One and, considering the PS4 Camera costs 60 USD / 50 EUR, adding it to the retail pack would have reduced the PS4's advantage.
