A new report has appeared online confirming what many games industry insiders already knew: Sony achieved the 399 USD/EUR price for the PlayStation 4 by dropping the PS4 camera from the retail package.

Sony impressed millions of gamers from around the world earlier this week when it confirmed that its PlayStation 4 will cost just 399 USD/EUR, as opposed to Microsoft's Xbox One that's priced at 499 USD/EUR.

However, according to IGN, the low price was achieved at a big cost, as Sony had to drop the PS4 camera from the retail package, which was initially set to also cost 499 USD/EUR.

This sacrifice means that not a lot of games will come with support for the PS4 camera, as developers aren't sure just how many console owners will get the peripheral, which costs 49 EUR / 59 USD.
