Zero the new hero?

Don't get the wrong idea, Microsoft and Sony have much more important things to do than to design some new controllers for their next-gens. First of all, Sony needs to improve its PS3 production quota and Microsoft needs to work on its marketing strategy because once more PS3s become available, the next-gen war will see them as losers.

Nyko is the company that developed the new controllers; you probably know them as they have developed some other Xbox 360 and PlayStation accessories. These controllers aren't exactly "new" per-say, but an adaptation of Nyko's Zero line of controllers for the PlayStation 2. The two next-gen controllers will see the light of day at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The enhanced Zero controllers feature 2.4 GHZ wireless technology, heat-dissipating aluminum panels, backlit buttons and an ergonomic design to fit nice and tight in your hand. The new devices are powered by a battery pack, completely rechargeable, and you can use the included USB cable to juice them up.

If you were wondering when you will get to try out these babies, know that they will first become available in the first quarter of 2007, and will retail for around 50 bucks. I guess that if you have 600 green ones to pay for a next-gen, you will also reach into your pocket for an extra 50 to enjoy some wireless, ergonomic action. I know that the wireless Xbox 360 controller was recently on sale for US$ 30 on Amazon but if you didn't get a chance to order it, you might consider Zero controllers an option.
