In Japan

The beginning of another week means that we have an update related to the hardware and software charts in the far away land of Japan. It seems to be a week without big surprises, with the PlayStation 3 Slim continuing to decline in sales slowly while the Nintendo DS dominates hardware.

The Nintendo-made handheld has managed to sell 63,342 units in one week, making a strong debut for October. Meanwhile, the PlayStation 3 Slim from Sony is at close to 40,000 units, declining from more than 50,000 last week. It seems that the appeal of the new Sony hardware revision is slowly slipping but it has still managed to stay ahead of important contenders, most significantly the Nintendo Wii.

The home console that has dominated sales this generation has sold just 11,731 consoles during last week, less than the DS Lite, which has managed a little over 15,000 units, and the PlayStation Portable from Sony that has shipped more than 17,000 units. Customers are probably waiting for the price cut that Nintendo announced for the Wii to kick in before they pick one up. The Xbox 360 from Microsoft managed to sell 4,854 units in a week, while the PS2, just 2,347.

When it comes to videogames, the charts have not changed much. Tomodachi Collection from Nintendo for the DS has managed to sell close to 100,000 units in one week to top the chart, while Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver snapped second and third places with 68,000 and 64,000 units moved, respectively.

The first non-Nintendo DS videogame in the chart has been Tales of Vesperia from Namco Bandai, delivered for the PlayStation 3, which sold 49,000 units. Jikkyou Pawapuro Pro Yakkyuu Portable 4 from Konami for the PSP moved 42,000 copies. Halo 3: ODST from Bungie and Microsoft managed to enter the top ten at number nine, with 30,000 units shipped.
