PlaySpan – a company that offers monetization services for more than 1,000 social networks and online games – was forced to shut down its public facing website after hackers managed to breach their systems.

As a result of this incident, the usernames, email addresses and password hashes of millions of PlaySpan Marketplace customers have been leaked. The company’s representatives have told Develop that payment card data has not been accessed.

They claim that they’ve cut off the attackers’ access as soon as they discovered the breach. User accounts have been locked and the site has been closed down.

However, as a precaution, PlaySpan is advising customers to change their passwords on all the websites that share the same credentials as the ones used on their website.

A comprehensive forensic analysis has been launched and law enforcement has been called in to investigate the crime.

“We sincerely apologise for any frustration or inconvenience this incident has caused our customers. We know PlaySpan’s business depends on consumer trust. Security is a top priority for us, and we are redoubling our efforts to strengthen PlaySpan’s overall system security,” the company stated.
