A brand new Kinect hack has appeared on the web, this time showcasing a "blasphemy" for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 fans, with one developer using the Xbox 360-exclusive Kinect to navigate the PlayStation 3 and play Killzone 3, a game exclusive to the platform.

Since the release of the Kinect motion-detection sensor for the Xbox 360 by Microsoft, plenty of hackers and developers have tried their hands on making the device do all sorts of interesting things both on the actual Xbox 360 and on the PC.

We've seen quite a lot of impressive projects, including playing World of Warcraft with the Kinect.

Now, developer Shantanu Goel has published a brand new hack, allowing him to use the Kinect on the PlayStation 3, through an intermediate computer that translates the input of the sensor and transmits it to the Sony console.

The PC is running an array of software programs, many of which are in pre-alpha stage, but the proof of concept has been released in the form of the video below.

In the footage, Goel uses the Kinect to navigate the PlayStation 3's XMB menu, pushing twice with his hand to confirm a selection. He chooses the launch Killzone 3, a PS3-exclusive game that has support for the PlayStation Move motion-detection system, the Kinect's rival.

After skipping all of the cut scenes and starting the game, you can see that, although a bit dodgy, Killzone 3 and the PS3 recognize his movements and translate it into actions on the screen.

Goel says that things are still in the experimental stage and that the recognition is much smoother when sitting down. However, there are still a lot of things he needs to fine tweak in order to make using the Kinect on the PlayStation 3 a great experience.

For anyone willing to indulge in his experiment, Goel posted a walkthrough and all of the tips he has on the project on this website, so feel free to check it out.

Microsoft promised a set of official drivers for the Kinect on the PC, which should really help developers create even more outlandish experiences.

Until then, check out the video below showing Goel controlling the PlayStation 3 with a Kinect.
