As Everquest nears its 10 year anniversary, Sony is pretty consistent in its attempts to bring players back to the game that once was amongst the most successful MMOs on the market. One of the recently unveiled initiatives in this regard is the launch of the Living Legacy program, which is designed to bring old players back to the game.

If you've ever played Everquest or Everqurest II, Sony is inviting you to log back in to your old account and play the game for free until the end of July. All fees are wavered for this period of time and a bunch of content is delivered to you at no cost. Everquest players will get the Everquest Secrets of Faydwer all-in-one compilation and will also get access to some bonus in-game items. Everquest II players are going to receive the Everquest II Rise of Kunark all-in-one compilation in addition to some free in-game items.

There's also a recruitment drive going on tied to the Living Legacy program. If a player of Everquest manages to get a new player signed up for the game they get more free time added to their free play period.

The program will tie in with other events planned by Sony to mark the 10 year anniversary of its MMO. Major live events are planned in the game world and some new areas will now be available to all players while the live team that takes care of the MMO is planning to also offer some XP bonus weekends to encourage players to log in to the game.

John Smedley, who is president of Sony Online Entertainment stated that "The EverQuest franchise has touched so many lives since the launch of EverQuest in 1999, and with the 10th anniversary of EverQuest just around the corner, we felt it was the best time to give back to all the players who made it the cultural phenomenon it is today. We are grateful for the continued support from our legions of fans and are extremely excited about the groundswell of interest surrounding Living Legacy".
