PlasticLogic might change the way smartwatches look

You might be familiar with the PlasticLogic name because the company is in the business of making displays for eBook readers and other devices.

But the appeal of wearables has become so intoxicating for players in the industry, that there are few that will say no to being part of it.

Therefore, PlasticLogic joins the trend and is currently showing off a flexible display that could be implemented in future devices such as smartwatches or fitness bands / bracelets, brings word The Digital Reader.

The new screen is actually a flexible AMOLED display that will be used for future curved wearable devices. I can already sense how the trendiness levels surrounding these devices will grow. Flexible display smartwatches will certainly look a lot better than the rudimentary looking Samsung Gear 2.

Adopters of such a device won’t have to give taking a curved wearable for a spin at a fancy reception or wedding a second thought.

Anyway, PlasticLogic’s new display has 256 different shades of gray and is capable of delivering screen refresh rates up to 30 frames per second. So basically the screen will be able to support video as well as text and images.

On top of these features, flexible displays have the advantage of being hard to break and damage, due to the lack of glass and bendable nature. Check out the video below to get an idea on what a curved AMOLED smartwatch might look like.
