PopCap Games confirms that there's a new community challenge available inside its multiplayer third-person shooter, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, called Lord of the Orb, and it might get extended due to the ongoing outages that affect the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live services.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare launched earlier this year across the Xbox One and Xbox 360 at first, and then it arrived on other platforms, such as the PC, PS3, or PS4. Since then, developer PopCap has organized different challenges for the community across the game's various modes.

A brand new community challenge is available and might get extended

The latest one kicked off recently, in the form of the Lord of the Orb event, according to the official Facebook page. The special challenge tasks players with collecting millions of Crazy Orbs in the Vanquish Confirmed game mode. If the whole community manages to collect 5 million orbs, they'll all get a Rare Pack, while 10 million net them an Ultra Rare pack of goodies.

However, as many gamers have noticed recently, the multiplayer shooter is unplayable due to the ongoing outages experienced by the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live online services. Both of them have buckled under the pressure of new users connecting for the first time, as well as due to organized DDoS attacks.

PopCap isn't ignoring the pleas from fans, as it confirms that it's going to talk with the game team in order to extend the event until the next weekend, not just until January 1, 2015.

You can expect to hear an update on the matter sooner rather than later. Until then, if you can play Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, be sure to do your part and engage in the Vanquish Confirmed mode so that the community goal can be reached and all players get the promised rewards.
