14 DAY TRIAL // Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is official, as Electronic Arts and PopCap Games confirm that they're going to launch a new multiplayer shooter in early 2016 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms worldwide. New gameplay videos and a few screenshots are also available, alongside many details.
Plants vs. Zombies may have delighted fans initially with its tower defense mechanics, but after EA's acquisition of PopCap Games, the series went into a new direction, in the form of Garden Warfare, a third-person multiplayer shooter.
The title delighted millions of fans across PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One last year, when it arrived on all these platforms. So great was the response that EA mentioned a few weeks ago that another installment would be coming.
Garden Warfare 2 is official and looks impressive
At E3 2015, EA and PopCap showcased quite a few things about Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, from its main premise, that of plants going on the offense against the zombies, to its new modes, new characters, and more.
First up, Garden Warfare 2 will be launched on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in early 2016. All content released after that will be free, so that all players can enjoy it.
All Garden Warfare 1 players will be able to transfer unlocked characters into the sequel at launch, so that they can already start things with a bang.
New modes, including solo play, are included
The new game puts plants on the offensive in an all-new 24-player Herbal Assault competitive mode. Fans of the cooperative Garden Ops will be treated to a brand new 4-player co-op mode called Graveyard Ops, where they take control of zombies against waves of plants.
Six new character classes are coming, such as Super Brainz, a zombie super hero, or Citron, a bounty-hunting orange from the future. PopCap mentions that there are more than 100 playable character variants, with all sorts of abilities and visuals.
Last but not least, there will be 12 immersive maps for multiplayer fans, but also an actual solo play experience, which will get detailed at a later point in time.
